Swallow earrings

I first made this earrings in 2018 as part of my final collection when I was studying jewellery manufacturing. I imagined these might be something Marie Antoinette might wear.

I particularly love the symbolism of swallows, back in the day sailors would only be allowed to wear a swallow tattoo once they’d sailed across the sea and returned home successfully. Swallows are a migrating bird that return home annually, and sailors believed swallows would return their soul back home should anything happen to them at sea.

They measure 6.5cm from the top of the hand to the bottom of the gemstone and weigh 5.34 grams, they are very light and comfy to wear. They are set with beautiful crystal quartz briolettes and made from sterling silver.
