Serpent Earrings

Serpens constellation lies in the northern hemisphere. Its name means “The Serpent” in Latin and dates back to Babylonian times.

In Greek mythology, Serpens represents a snake held by Asclepius, the hero and god of medicine and healing.

Asclepius once killed a snake, but it was resurrected after a second snake placed a revival herb on it just before its death. As snakes shed their skin every year, they were known as the symbol of rebirth and legend says Asclepius would revive dead humans using the same technique he witnessed.

The constellation is divided into two parts, Serpens Caput, representing the serpent’s head, and Serpens Cauda, the serpent’s tail. I’ve divided this collection in two distinct parts, the black, gold and silver pieces represent the night sky, planets, stillness and the cosmos. The floral pieces represent healing, growth and rebirth.
Serpents represent fertility and a creative life force. They shed their skin and re-emerge, they are symbols of transformation, immortality, and abundance.

Created from sterling silver and an ancient Korean technique called Keum Boo, I’ve bonded 24k gold leaf to the heads and moons. The earrings are lightweight, very comfy to wear and measure 30mm wide x 41mm high.
