Lovers Eye Ring size 7

I’ve always loved the Georgian era “lovers eye” jewellery, I find it fascinating.

A lovers eye painting is a miniature of the givers eye presented to a loved one. It was a fad from c.1790 – 1820. The idea behind the jewellery was the eye would be recognisable only to the recipient and could therefore be worn publicly keeping the lover’s identity a secret.

The eye in this ring has been hand painted in vitreous enamel and kiln fired at 800 degrees celsius. Vitreous enamel paint is made of finely ground up coloured glass which melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating. The word comes from the Latin vitreum, meaning “glass”. The eye took several layers of paint with a firing in-between each one to gradually build up the final image.

The setting has been inspired by Georgian jewellery of the time and set with a 6mm garnet gemstone. The front of the ring measures 43mm wide and 34mm high. The ring is made from sterling silver, a size 7, very comfy and ready to ship in a gift box.
